You are invited to attend a soup, sandwich, and discussion group for the book “The Promise of Winter”
by Martin and Micah Marty. Lenten Luncheons will be held on Tuesday March 3rd, and then on
Wednesdays March 11, 18, 25, and April 1. We will start at noon and finish at 1:00 p.m. Attendees
are invited to bring a sandwich in which they might be willing to cut in half to share it with someone else
and perhaps to provide a pot of soup for one of the gatherings. We will open with prayer, share the meal,
then share some thoughts on the book.

Why does God give us winter? Is it a time to test our survival skills? Is it a period of
hibernation or rest? What role does it play in your spiritual life? What are some ways that
winter can be a blessing?
Some years ago, Martin and Micah Marty authored a book called, “The Promise of Winter.” Using
photographs, scripture, and prayer, the book offers a reflection for each day in Lent. You are invited to
attend a soup, sandwich, and discussion group for this book.

The book can be ordered online as a paperback or at Nook Book. You may also share a book with
another attendee as we will go over some of the material during our time together.
